If you’re unable to connect your bank account directly to the Good Numbers app, you may still be able to import your transactions manually using CSV files downloaded from your bank.
This doesn’t mean you’ll always need to import transactions manually. If your bank becomes available for direct connection later, we can help transition your organisation from manual imports to automatic bank feeds.
Manual transaction importing isn’t turned on by default.
Please contact the Good Numbers team if you’d like us to enable manual imports for your organisation.
You’ll also need to download a CSV file containing your transactions from your bank.
Need help downloading the right file? Guide: Get Bank Transactions in a CSV File
Before downloading your CSV file, check the most recent transaction already showing in Good Numbers.
Go to the Transactions page and find the date of the newest transaction. Newest transactions are always shown at the top. Note: you may need to filter by Account if you have more than one.
When exporting your transactions from your bank:
For example, if the most recent transaction in Good Numbers is dated 20 June, export transactions beginning from 21 June. This helps prevent you from importing the same transactions twice.

Go to the Transactions page and click the purple Import Transactions button.
Select the bank you’re importing transactions from, then attach the CSV file you downloaded from your bank.
You can attach multiple CSV files for different bank accounts in one import. However, while you’re getting familiar with the process, we recommend importing:
This makes it easier to understand where any duplicate transactions have come from.
Once you’ve selected your bank and attached your file, click Next.

Your bank not shown? We can import CSV files for most banks. Contact Us to ask if we can support your bank.
Good Numbers will now run a few checks in the background.
The app will check:
Good Numbers will show you the transactions that appear to be duplicates.
In the example below, two duplicate transactions have been detected. Import without duplicates is selected so they won’t be imported again.

You can:
Take care when choosing to import possible duplicates. Once a transaction has been imported into Good Numbers, you can’t delete it yourself. This is intentional and helps protect the accuracy of your organisation’s financial records.
If you accidentally import a transaction, contact the Good Numbers team and we can remove it for you.
You’ll see a confirmation showing how many transactions are ready to be imported.
Review the total and click Import.
Once your transactions have been successfully imported, Good Numbers will ask whether you’d like to update the account balance.

Select Yes only when you’re importing the most recent transactions for the bank account.
Select No when you’re importing historical transactions. A balance you enter now wouldn’t represent the balance at the historical date of those transactions.
Once you’ve made your selection, the import is complete.
Not every bank includes a closing balance in its exported CSV files.
Where a closing balance isn’t available, Good Numbers attempts to calculate the balance using:
If the balance shown in Good Numbers doesn’t match your internet banking, please contact the Good Numbers team and we’ll help get it sorted.
The import is now complete. Close this tab to return to the Good Numbers app. You will need to refresh the transactions page in the Good Numbers app to see your newly imported transactions.

Newly imported transactions will not have any suggested categories. Suggested categories are generated on a regular basis by the app. Come back later to see the suggested categories for these newly imported transactions, or assign the categories manually.
Good Numbers will detect when you’re importing transactions for a bank account that hasn’t previously been added to your organisation.
In most cases, we identify the account number using information included in the CSV file:

You’ll need to add the new bank account before the import can continue.
If you’re prompted to add a new bank account but believe the account is already in Good Numbers, cancel the import. Contact the Good Numbers team and we’ll help you work out what has happened.
Ask Duncan anything — big or small. He’ll get back to you ASAP, and your questions will help improve the information here for everyone.
