Here’s your Good Numbers good news for July 2026 — a quick round-up of the what's happening in the world of small nonprofits, and the tools we’re building to support them.
I’m proud to say that the Good Numbers app is now live and generally available for small charities and non-profits to sign up. Getting to this point has taken a lot of work behind the scenes, including security testing and putting the right open banking agreements in place. My hope is that Good Numbers will help volunteer treasurers spend less time wrestling with spreadsheets and accounting systems, feel more confident about their organisation’s finances, and have more time and energy for the work their organisation is actually there to do.
People can now check whether their organisation is eligible and sign up directly through the website. That said, you are still very welcome to talk to me first 
. I know that changing the way an organisation manages its money can feel like a big step, and I’m always happy to talk through how the app works, whether it is a good fit, and what the sign-up process involves. Also, I love meeting groups from across the mōtu!
Big bank who?
For now, our focus is on charities and incorporated societies banking with Kiwibank, Heartland Bank, TSB, or The Co-operative Bank, while we wait for multi-signatory account open banking access from the big four banks. If you know a small charity, club, or non-profit that banks with one of these Kiwi-owned banks, please forward this newsletter to them or encourage them to get in touch. I had a great time in Wellington and Featherston, meeting treasurers, committee members, and others involved with small charities. They braved the cold, wet, and windy weather to learn more about the treasurer role, financial reporting, and how to tell their organisation’s money story. Sadly, I completely forgot to take a photo!

And how do I use one?
Does your small charity really need a full accounting system? Not always. For many organisations, a well-run cash book is the more practical, fit-for-purpose option - enough structure to keep good records and meet reporting needs, without paying for complexity you do not use.
