Connecting Your Bank Account to Good Numbers

To get the most out of the Good Numbers App, you connect your organisation's bank account. This lets us automatically bring your transactions into the app — there's no manual data entry, and your numbers are always up to date.

Here's exactly what that means, and how it works.

What we access

When you connect your bank account, Good Numbers retrieves:

  • Account information — the account name and current balance
  • Transaction history — the details of money coming in and going out

When you first connect, we'll fetch up to 12 months of past transactions so you have a complete picture from the start. After that, we'll pull in daily updates automatically — keeping your app current without you having to do anything.

This continues until you disconnect your account (see below for how to do that).

We can't move money, and we don't see anything beyond the account(s) you specifically authorise.

How we use this information

Your transaction data is used to power the Good Numbers App — and nothing else. Specifically, it allows you to:

  • See your bank balance on your dashboard
  • Review and categorise transactions
  • Tag spending to grants and generate funding reports
  • Produce your Money Overview report for your committee or board
  • Make year-end financial statements faster and less stressful

We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose outside of providing you with the Good Numbers service. You can read the full details in our Privacy Policy.

About Akahu

To connect your bank account, Good Numbers uses Akahu — New Zealand's open finance platform.

Akahu is the secure connection layer between your bank and apps like Good Numbers. Depending on your bank, the connection process will work one of two ways:

  • Open banking: You'll approve the information sharing request directly within your banking app or internet banking login. Good Numbers never sees your banking credentials.
  • Classic connection: You'll enter your banking credentials directly with Akahu. Good Numbers never sees your username, password, or any other credentials.

Either way, Akahu retrieves only the financial data you've consented to share, and passes it securely to Good Numbers.

Disconnecting your account

You can disconnect your bank account at any time. There are a few ways to do this:

  • From within the Good Numbers App — go to your account settings and remove the connection
  • Directly through Akahu — log in at my.akahu.nz to manage or revoke app access
  • Through your bank (open banking connections only) — withdraw consent via your banking app or internet banking login

Once disconnected, Good Numbers will no longer receive updates from your bank.
